Matthew Bourne is back with a magical adaptation of Tim Burtons legendary motion picture.
Famous for his radical version of Swan Lake, with its corps of male swans, Matthew Bourne, one of the most celebrated choreographers in Britain, returns with a dance version of the 1990 Tim Burton movie that made a star of actor Johnny Depp.

The gothic fairytale Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a boy created by an eccentric inventor who dies leaving him alone and unfinished. Left with only scissors for hands, Edward must find his place in a strange new suburban world where the well meaning community struggle to see past his strange appearance to the innocence and gentleness within.

Edward Scissorhands was a bigger test than Swan Lake, Matthew Bourne said in an interview with Clifford Bishop from The Times. He remembered when he first suggested the idea of adapting Tim Burton’s goth-romantic film, people thought of a musical version, until they realised it would be a ballet. (Find the whole interview under the link Times Online).

With this production Matthew Bournes inspired the world of fashion as well, as the British issue of Elle Magazine invited him to choreograph a rather magic fahsion spread with Victoria Beckham as a snow queen.

Alas Matthew Bournes new ballet is currently only touring in Great Britain (Tour Dates).

But it's worth a journey...
