Money makes the world go round... sang Liza Minnelli in „Cabaret“ and young dancers and choreographers know what she was talking about. Newcomers on the dance scene are often facing severe
problems in getting funding for their work, but sometimes they are just not aware of all the opportunities that exist. Recently more and more
institutions who support dance are presenting their programmes and projects on their websites, so getting important information has become a bit easier.
In the following a few examples from Finnland, Germany, Austria, Great Britain and the USA are presented.
The
Helsinki International artist-residence programme - HIAP - is an umbrella organization that is cooperating with several other organisations in Finland. HIAP grants two to three-month residencies, providing „time and space for creative work, contacts and interaction with Finnish contemporary artists.“ Further information at

The
Dance Department of the British Arts Council is offering a variety of funds e. g. for touring work, for interdisciplinary arts practice and for “productions utilising a range of moving-image media and encouraging the use of new emergent media as well as or alongside the use of video and film.“

The
Suitcase of Fund of Dance Theater Workshop in New York „supports artists and projects that traverse cultural boundaries, thereby removing the economic and geographic barriers that deny artists access to other cultures. Its mission is to support the research, creation and dissemination of artists‘ work.“ The Suitcase Fund „enables American artists to conduct performance and research residencies in East/Central Europe, Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia, while giving international artists the opportunity to journey to the United States“. In the last two years Dance Theater Workshop inaugurated the Mekong Project fostering international relationships in the Mekong River region and supported projects in Coratia, Romania and other East European countries.
Currently Dance Theater Workshop is not accepting unsolicited grant proposals from individual artists and organizations, however appreciates getting information on projects of artists in these regions. More information at at
