Ann Liv Young
"snow white"
2007 © Nicholas Strini

Ann Liv Young adds her transformed Snow White to the re-enactment boom. In the sweet, distorted fairy tale she discovers a wild, destructive and uproarious story of an initiation for which, in its physical drama, the glass coffin stood. Is it post-post-post feminist? In any case three performers appear in heavy black sneakers and leotards to stand on the open stage and undress and dress almost incidentally. As with the bit about the poisoned apple, something seems to go awry. As the mike breaks down during a rock song, Young shouts at the audience. A female prince climbs onto Snow White wearing a strap-on dildo. But she is not dead. She jumps up and reverses the roles.
