RoseAnne Spradlin Dance
"Survive Cycle"
2007 © Roger Gaess

Choreographer RoseAnne Spradlin investigates breakdowns and transformations in the evening-length, mixed-media work "Survive Cycle." Spradlin collaborates with artists Glen Fogel (film/video), Chris Peck (live music), Joe Levasseur (lighting) and performers Walter Dundervill, Chase Granoff, Melanie Maar and Tasha Taylor in exploring excision, pruning and destruction as necessary cycles in life. Performers Cédric Andriéux and Paige Martin also appear in the work on video. The work takes on a visceral, unsettled tone as the detailed dancing is undercut by violent wiggling and shaking; as rapid-moving video images of shredded clothes tumble toward the audience and as the performers speak in close-up video about their private lives. A final section reconstitutes the cut-up garments into a recycled vision of possibility.
