The Angola Project I
The face of the world keeps changing with a fascinating resoluteness. The reality of cultures and societies of different identities living together is increasingly leaving its mark on our present-day life. The US/Austrian formation CABULA6 is realistic enough to examine these new constellations. Part of their major project “Life On Earth” about migration, notions of home, travelling and diasporas is the “Angola Project”. The objective is to shoot a film, a road movie about two siblings who have embarked on a journey to their origins. The path turns out to be rather rocky, as concerns financing. But CABULA6 find a way. In two lecture performances so far, Jeremy Xido takes the potential audience for the film to the locations even now. First to Lisbon, the starting point of the adventure
(Project 1), and, straight from there, to Angola (Project 2), not seen through the eyes of tourists or documentarists, but artists: the gaze becomes a gift – diametrically opposed to that of a holiday-maker keen on prey.
