Louise Lecavalier / Fou Glorieux (CA)
Children / A Few Minutes of Lock
She was the only one who could perform a full-body barrel jump (a “horizontal” pirouette). For nearly two decades, Louise Lecavalier was principal dancer with the famous Canadian company La La La Human Steps under the direction of Édouard Lock. Meanwhile the extreme dancer realises her own projects and has collaborated with Tedd Robinson, Crystal Pite and Benoît Lachambre, among others. With Lachambre, she created the dark solo “‘I’ Is Memory” and the magical duet “Is You Me”. Now Lecavalier presents a programme comprising two extraordinary works: British provocateur Nigel Charnock choreographed the piece “Children” for her and dancer Patrick Lamothe, and from her past as a dance virtuoso she presents “A Few Minutes with Lock”. “‘Children’ is like children are”, says Charnock, “beautiful and ugly, sweet and irritating”. And in her commemoration of Lock, Lecavalier dances excerpts from such famous pieces as “Salt” and “2” with Elijah Brown and Lamothe.
