Cie. Ann Liv Young (USA)
"The Bagwell in me"

George Washington, the first president of the United States of America, was a slave owner. This aspect of her country’s history is what Ann Liv Young – hotly discussed, perpetually provocative US American choreographer – deals with in this work. And Oney Judge is part of this story: she was one of the female slaves in Washington’s household. On her mother’s side, Young is a Bagwell, and the Bagwells had slaves, too. So the artist takes on the role of a fictitious president Washington who starts an affair with his human property. And Young’s Oney gets pregnant… “The Bagwell in me” is a rousing piece, and not for sensitive souls. Instead, it refers directly to the problematic history and present of the USA with explicit torture and sex scenes.

Due to pornographic scenes, admission to the performance “The Bagwell in me” by the Ann Liv Young company is granted only to people from 18 years of age.
