Gala-Abend
"Preljocaj/Forsythe/Rosas/Chouinard"
William Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and Marie Chouinard are the protagonists of the great ImPulsTanz gala evening in the Wiener Burgtheater.
Manuel Legris and Laetitia Pujol from the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Paris dance extracts from Preljocaj’s first work for the company, “Le Parc”: a retrospective view on the chivalrous as well as cunning games of seduction in the 18th century, accompanied by the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Forsythe’s fugue of the mechanics of the theatrical ritual, “Steptext”, with music by Johann Sebastian Bach, is performed by dancers of the Mariinsky-Kirov Ballet. And one of the most prominent dancers of the former Ballett Frankfurt, Antony Rizzi, performs William Forsythe’s “Approximate Sonata” together with Leslie Heylmann. In this piece ironic satires on the great choreographer’s improvisations are presented as deconstructions of neoclassical material of movement ŕ la Balanchine.
And finally, two very different artists of contemporary dance immerse themselves in the revolutionary, scandalous work of Vaclav Nijinski and the Ballets Russes. Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker presents “Prélude ŕ l’aprčs-midi d’un faune” to music by Claude Debussy, and Marie Chouinard from Canada presents her version of “Le sacre du printemps” to the music of Igor Strawinsky.
