The visual beauty and intensity of Grace Ellen Barkey’s works is legendary. For “The Porcelain Project” the Indonesian choreographer, who has long been affiliated with the Belgian Needcompany, has populated the stage with porcelain sculptures by designer Lot Lemm and turned it into a utopian world of fantasy – a place beyond the usual order. “In this piece, nonsense times nonsense equals a coherent result”, Belgian newspaper “De Standaard” wrote of “The Porcelain Project”. It is many things at the same time: a crazy, royal drama, jumping from one colourful masquerade to the next, overflowing with frivolity, yet it is also a dark allegory of power, lust and desire.
