Ö1 Prix Jardin d’Europe
the new prize for young choreographers at ImPulsTanz
in cooperation with DER STANDARD

The new prize for contemporary choreography by young dance makers - the Ö1 Prix Jardin d’Europe - will be awarded for the first time within the frame of the 25th ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival 2008. A jury, consisting of eleven emerging arts and dance journalists, will nominate three laureates among a group of 12 young choreographers featured in the festival’s [8:tension]+ Young Choreographers’ Series.

The prize
The award, 10.000,- Euro for the first prize (donated of radio station Ö1), and two residencies for the second and third prize, will be handed out on August 9 at the MuseumsQuartier within the frame of the danceWEB-Gala by the renowned choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
The designer of the new prize is the worldwide known Austrian artist Erwin Wurm. Wurm is Professor of sculpture and multimedia at the University Angewandte Kunst Vienna.

The Jury
The jury is formed by young European culture and dance journalists. The members of the jury participate at the same time in the project Critical Endeavour, an educational and workshop programme designed to enhance dance criticism in Europe. Mentor of the project is dancescientist and recogniced journalist Franz Anton Cramer (D). From July 23 the jury members will publish texts in DER STANDARD as well as under: www.ImPulsTanz.com.

The Prix Jardin d’Europe is one of the highest endowed prizes within the frame of contemporary dance in Europe. The prize itself has been initiated by the new international network Jardin d’Europe that has been developed by its 10 network partners (Ultima Vez / B, CCN Montpellier / F, Workshop Foundation / H, Lokomotiva / MK, Station / RS, Art Link / RO, Cullberg Ballet /SE, Bimeras Culture Foundation / TR, Southbank Centre /UK, danceWEB / A), who have created a vision of the future of contemporary dance in Europe. Four of these initiatives will organise the awarding in the upcoming years.
