Die Große Fuge

'Die Große Fuge' - part of the performance 'Erts' from A.T. De Keersmaeker, created in 1992, is a piece danced to Beethoven's String Quartet op.133 'Die Große Fuge'. Each dancer follows the voice of one of the four instruments: 1st Violin, 2nd Violin, Viola and Violoncello. At the beginning this piece was danced by six men and one woman, later on by 8 dancers. The piece consists of three themes: First Fugue, Fugato and Second Fugue, and each theme is variated. We will focus on the construction of the music and learn the dance material of two of the themes, and how they change and develop in their many variations. It’s a difficult piece to dance - demanding a lot of concentration to keep the rhythm going.
