Cristian Duarte (BR)
Cristian Duarte (São Paulo) graduated in Advertising and Creation from the Communication and Arts Department at Mackenzie University - São Paulo. Since 1995 he has been dedicated to contemporary dance, to artistic creations, investigative projects and body studies initiated with Cia. Estudio Nova Dança in São Paulo. In 2002, he graduated from P.A.R.T.S., Brussels.
From 2007-2010, he coordinated the work platform DESABA in partnership with Thelma Bonavita in São Paulo - an initiative that focused on developing tools and practices for dance creation as well as documentation strategies and performative actions. In September 2010, he took part in the 3rd cycle of the new research project by Nada Gambier (Finland/Brussels), which took place at the "institute for provocation" (formerly known as TIM) in Beijing.
In collaboration with Paz Rojo (Madrid), he facilitates, coordinates and produces the work frame "a piece…together?" which investigates different artistic practices, experiential archives, gestures and experiments in between words, actions and inter corporeal experiences.
Among his works are: "O Revisor em Série #" (2009-2011, São Paulo), the creation and direction of a solo dance piece in collaboration with the dancer Leandro Berton; "Tombo" (2009, São Paulo) for DESABA, in collaboration with Thelma Bonavita and Thiago Granato; "It's so good" (2008, London), a piece for 10 dancers, commissioned by the Transitions Dance Company/Laban Centre; "Eletroquímicos, Baby" (2008) a duet created in collaboration with Thelma Bonavita; "Cornélia Boom" (2008, São Paulo), a solo directed and created for the 12° Cultura Inglesa Festival, in collaboration with Sheila Arêas; "Plano B" (2008, Rio de Janeiro), a solo directed and created in collaboration with Thiago Granato and produced for the event Solos de Dança do SESC; "It" (2006, London) a piece for 12 dancers, commissioned by Transitions Dance Company/Laban Centre; "Médelei (eu sou brasileiro (etc} e não existo nunca)" (2006) a group piece developed with the support of the city of São Paulo, awarded a FUNARTE-Petrobras, premiered in 11/08/2006 (SESC Santana- São Paulo) and won the APCA 2006 award for Sheila Arêas’ performance; "Whatapostrophes wrong question mark" (2005-2006), a collaboration project with Shani Granot (IL), Peter Fol (BE), Nada Gambier (FIN) and Alice Evermore (USA/BE); "Embodied" (2003); "Middle High Tones" (2002, Utrecht), a dance piece in collaboration with Shani Granot, premiered at Springdance Preview; "Pressa" (1998, São Paulo), a solo dance performance, premiered at I Bienal SESC Santos, which received the São Paulo Critics Association Award - APCA 1998.
