Nach seinem Abschluss an der Unitec Performing Arts School in zeitgenössischem Tanz in Neuseeland 1995 wirkte er als Tänzer bei zahlreichen Produktonen mit, Carol Brown Machine for Living, Michael Parmenter’s Commotion Company Jerusalem, Black Grace Soul Power und Fia Ola, ua. Seit 2001 ist er Tänzer bei Willi Dorner, Österreich, in intertwining, mazy, threeseconds, not at all und in dessen neuster Produktion von 2004 (...). Parallel dazu performte er für Davis Freeman und Lilia Mestre, Random Scream, in Everything you want to know about the club scene and were afraid to ask in Brüssel und in Two Shy to Stare in Lissabon und Berlin.

Seit 2000 ist Matthew Smith Pilates-Instructor mit Zertifikat der Australian Pilates Method Association. 2001 und 2002 unterrichtete er Pilates bei P.A.R.T.S in Brüssel.
