Martin Puttke
After his engagement at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin Martin Puttke continued his education at the theater school „Gitis“ in Moscow from 1970 to 1975. He specialized in ballet pedagogics / male dancing with professor Tarassow being one of the world’s leading capacities in that field. Since 1975 he teaches at the Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin, and became its artistic director in 1979 and finally its director in 1981. 1988 he was appointed a professorship. In the eigthies the international professional circles were becoming more and more aware of his work as a ballet pedagogue / master and director as his students kept gaining gold medals and main prizes at the most important ballet competitions of the world. The Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin evolved to be one of the leading ballet schools in the world. Under his students were acclaimed soloists such as Oliver Matz, Mario Perricone, Raimondo Rebeck or Gregor Seyffert.
1990 to 1992 he was additionally heading the ballet of the state opera of Berlin where he collaborated with Rudolf Nurejev, Patrice Bart, and Maurice Béjart, a. o. Simultaneously he could strengthen his reputation as a specialist for classical dance and ballet pedagogue through lectures, seminars and guest teaching in the whole world as much as publishing and translating important specialized books. Since 1995 he has been the ballet director of aalto ballett theater essen that has been capable of gaining high recognition within a short time thanks to its high dance culture in classical and modern works.
