Arturo Fernandez (US)
After working with Les BAllets Trocadero de Monte Carlo, San Diego Ballett, Pittsburgh BAllet Theatre and others, Arthur Fernandez joined ODC/San Francisco in 1980 where he danced and assisted the choreographers untill 1991. In 1992 he joined INES Contemporary BAllet. ARture Fernandz teaches modern and classical classes and workshops all over the U.S.. Living openly with HIV since 1991, Fernandez maintained a furious choreographic pace as co-artistic director (with Ney Fonseca) of Juntos Dance Theater from 1991-93, and in 1995 he founded Left Coast Dance as a venue for his own choreography. Fernandez's choreographic work has often dealt directly with homosexuality and HIV/AIDS and has been commissioned by companies such as Ballet Jorgen (Toronto), George Coates Performance Works, GAPA Dance Company, and Alonzo King's Lines Ballet. Fernandez has served as ballet master for Lines since 1992. Fernandez has taught for San Francisco Dance Center, San Francisco Unified District School of the Arts, California State University–Long Beach, and San Francisco State University.
