Valerie Oberleithner (AT)
Valerie Oberleithner (* 1978) is an Austrian choreographer and performer. For thirteen years, she lived in Germany, for three years in the USA. From 1998 to 2001 she studied German language and literature with focus on linguistics and communication, as well as studies of media, focus on theatre at the Karl-Franzens-Universität, Graz, Austria. From 2003 to 2006, studies of contemporary stage dance at Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz, final degree in 2008.
Valerie Oberleithner works and worked with several Austrian and international choreographers and companies, such as Superamas (Casino, redefined action), Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Jennifer Lacey, Oleg Soulimenko, Davis Freeman, Branco Potocan, Doris Stelzer or Fanni Futterknecht. In 2007, she received a danceWEB scholarship. In 2009, her first feature-length stage performance Show Me! in collaboration with sound designer Olivier Tirmarche (Superamas) premiered in BUDA, Kortrijk, Belgium. Within the same year, Show Me! was shown at Viennese theatre WUK and in the frames of Working Title Festival #3 in Brussels. In 2009, Valerie Oberleither together with performer and visual artist Fanni Futterknecht developed the performative installation Pittoresque, which premiered at the Wiener Hofburg within the frames of Hofburg bewegt and subsequently was shown at the KHM (Viennese museum of art history) in the context of Ladies‘ Day. In 2010, Valerie Oberleithner created her solo performance Splendid Isolation in collaboration with Jennifer Lacey and Olivier Tirmarche. The piece emerged in the course of international residencies in Belgium, France and Austria, and premiered in November 2010 at WUK theatre in Vienna. Since January 2008, Valerie Oberleithner regularly teaches contemporary dance classes and classes in performance, presence and presentation at the CONdance education, Vienna. She gave and gives numerous workshops, classes and community projects in Graz (UNIT), Salzburg (SEAD), Oberwart (Modeschule Oberwart) and Vienna (Tanzquartier Wien, move on, performdance). Valerie Oberleithner lives in Vienna and works in Paris, Vienna and Brussels.
