Joke Laureyns studied moral philosophy and comparative religions (1990-1996).
After a few years of teaching workshops on creative development throughout movement and dance, she founded her own company, called kabinet k in Gent. Ever since, she has been working as a choreographer, with her vast companion Kwint Manshoven. From the very beginning, their work was presented for both an adult audience and children.
In collaboration with different cultural partners in Flanders, she created several dance-pieces in which children share the stage with professional dancers, amongst them: "i see you" (2012), "Unfold" (2009) a co-production with Kopergietery, Gent, "Einzelgänger (-)"
(2008) and "Questo Ricordo" (2006) with the Company CC Hasselt in Limburg which was also shown at ImPulsTanz 2006.
Besides the choreographical work, she was leading the ateliers and projects for Kopergietery as a member of the artistic team (2003 – 2008). And untill today she is still teaching ateliers wih children and youngsters within the ateliers of Kopergietery, as well as for other organisations and schools.
Her unique approach on dance with and for children makes her give workshops and lectures throughout europe, for dance-students, teachers, directors.
