P.A.R.T.S. (BE)
In 1995, Rosas and De Munt/La Monnaie initiated the founding of the dance school P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios). Under the direction of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Theo Van Rompay P.A.R.T.S. rapidly developed into an innovative, internationally renowned school. Every two years a group of young dancers and choreographers leaves P.A.R.T.S. to add to the dynamism of the international contemporary dance community. The energy and desires of young choreographers from P.A.R.T.S. inspired Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker to open up her production structure to a certain number of them.
Over the past years Rosas has supported the work of Salva Sanchis, Arco Renz, Charlotte van den Eynde, Mette Invartsen, Cristian Duarte and many others. In 2006, in order to further support this young work, Rosas took the initiative, together with Kaaitheater, to create a new production structure: WORKSPACE BRUSSELS run by Koen Kwanten from the Kaaitheaterstudio’s, with the possibility of using some of the dance studios in the Rosas/PARTS building in the Van Volxemlaan in Vorst.
Venice Biennale awards Silver Lion to P.A.R.T.S.
On 5 June, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) will receive the first Silver Lion for Dance during the 7th International Festival of Contemporary Dance at the Venice Biennale. P.A.R.T.S. was founded by Rosas and De Munt / La Monnaie in 1995 and has since then been headed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
The Silver Lion was conceived as a new prize for young talent in the performing arts. The Biennale’s Golden Lion has since several years been awarded for lifelong artistic achievement. By contrast, the Silver Lion is intended as a recognition of the artists of the coming generations. Those who qualify for this new prize are promising artists from dance, theatre and music and institutions that distinguish themselves in the training of this young talent.
Quoted from the jury report:? ?“Instituted quite recently (1995), the P.A.R.T.S. acquired immediate recognition throughout Europe as a centre of pedagogical innovation, with a complete and intensive programme of studies in which the most advanced techniques of contemporary dance dialogue with other artistic disciplines, in particular with theatre and music. A laboratory of movement which focuses not only on the development of the dancer’s skills, but on his search for artistic identity as well.“
