THE NARCISSUS PROJECT

LOVE SONGS

Love. It always has been a huge inspiration for all art forms. Music, film, literature, theatre – in most cases it is all about love.
But how do we dance love? Or rather: how do we show love?

Energy and Joie de Vivre are associated with African Dances. OUMOU MARIKO is considered to be the hub in her home country Mali, for dancers coming from all over the world. Her long standing musical companion, DRISSA KONE will accompany her class with a Djembe and teach a percussion workshop himself.

TERENCE LEWIS, STORM and DAYBEE are teaching Bollywood and HipHop workshops at ImPulsTanz. Additionally they will take part at BollyHop, a school project where they teach at four differnt schools in Vienna and Lower Austria. BollyHop will take place from May 16 - 28 and conclude in a dancing chain through the entire SCS, the biggest shopping mall of Europe. (see Programme: Dancing chain)

URBAN LAB

Have you ever talked to a zeppelin during a performance? Ever danced in an invisible city? Have you ever contemplated future investments with real inhabitants of unreal houses? Have you ever counted grasses in slowmotion with urban planners? Or recited art manifests with bankers?

Processes of urbanisation will be investigated by Daniel Aschwanden and collaborating artists from different perspectives on the 240 hectares building site of aspern The Lake City in Vienna. Choreographic-performative approaches will be disposed into the field of urban planning and the versatile intersections with art, architecture, social issues, economy and new media. The Lab will conclude with a performance weekend open to neighbours, workers and passers-by. READ MORE

OLD & NEW – JAN FABRE AT KHM

In the frame of the cooperation with the museum of art history Vienna (KHM), ImPulsTanz 2011 shows some of the early works from the 70’s and 80’s of the exalted Belgian artist Jan Fabre in the premises of KHM, newly interpreted by the contemporary choreographers Lisbeth Gruwez, Cédric Charron, Wim Vandekeybus and Emio Greco.
Works of the last two choreographers are presented at ImPulsTanz 2011 as well.

THE OPENING - BOLLYWOOD@MQ

Bollywood star-Choreographer Terence Lewis and his company open this years’ ImPulsTanz festival with “Jhoom“. The show combines typical Indian Bollywood pop-choreography with Indian contemporary dance, and deals with extremities within Lewis home country and the culture industry, in which he is a star himself.

Poetic journey

Vertical Road is Akram Khan's latest contemporary ensemble work. Vertical Road draws inspiration from the Sufi tradition and the Persian poet and philosopher Rumi. Vertical Road becomes a meditation on the journey from gravity to grace.

ImPulsTanz gives a first look into the new series of work by liquid loft / Chris Haring and will present premieres from *MELK PROD. / Marco Berrettini, Ivo Dimchev "X-ON" a.o. Cie. Marie Chouinard will show a new version of the outstanding "Mouvement" for the first time as a group piece.

EARLY WORKS

Icons of Contemporary dance search for their roots, and show renewals of their early works. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Rosas enact „Elena’s Aria“, the Cie. Mathilde Monnier newly interprets two their her early duetts in "pudique acide / extasis renewing", and the Cie. Marie Chouinard restages her first company-performance „Les Trous du Ciel“.

OF HEROES AND GODS

Welcome to the world of myths and mysterious legends. Jan Fabre, Belgium´s Enfant Terrible will show his "Prometheus - Landscape II" in the Volkstheater.
Ultima Vez / Wim Vandekeybus will present their „Oedipus / Bêt noir“ based on the text of Jan Decorte, outstanding because of its mixture of different elements.

A Workshop by Archie Burnett in 2010 (look at ImPulsTanz Workshops) inspired Trajal Harrell, Cecilia Bengolea, François Chaignaud and Marlene Freitas for their new performance „(M)IMOSA“. Trajal Harrell shows also two other performances at ImPulsTanz 2011!

A dog on stage? Ivo Dimchev presents his trio „We.art.dog.come“ together with a dog on stage. The company Ultima Vez and Wim Vandekeybus serve a „Monkey Sandwich“, a cross between film and performance, exciting and full of energy as we know the style of the company
